The Fresno Police Department is proudly hosting the California Gang Prevention Summit, Developing Partnerships for a Safer Community. Fresno Mayor Alan Autry and Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer will be present along with several distinguished guest speakers. This special event is open to Federal, State, and local Law Enforcement officials, Educators and Community Faith-Based Organizations. The Summit will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about the gang culture, identify best practices for combating gang activities, and demonstrate the benefits of establishing successful collaborations to address the rising gang problem.
Cost to attend is $125.00 before November 20, 2008 and $150.00 after that date. The Summit is December 2 - 3 with a networking reception on December 1.
A registration form can be downloaded here Fresno_GangSummit_Registration.doc (2.41 mb) The form is set up to be completed on your computer, printed and then mailed to the Fresno Mayor's Gang Prevention Initiative office along with payment.
NOTE: One of the outlined guest speakers, Maria Reyes, is with the group Freedom Writers. If you have seen the movie that chronicles the story of the Freedom Writers - it does not do the true story justice and this would be a great opportunity to meet one of the writers in person. I had the opportunity to meet and hear a presentation by Erin Gruwell, the teacher that started the group, and it is truly amazing to hear first hand what they overcame and more importantly what they have accomplished.
If you have the opportunity to attend this summit, I hope you will do so.
